Inskip Point was originally home to the Inskip Light Keeper and local timber getters. Some of the area was also mined prior to 1971. It is now predominantly a picturesque holiday area, part of Rainbow Beach and home to the Barge Service from Fraser Island. You will not require Vehicle permits to visit Inskip or to see the coloured sands. At Inskip Peninsula you’ll find a camping and recreation area, with four main camping areas, that incorporate toilet facilities; beach camping; open fires are permitted unless there is a local fireban; please provide your own clean timber as you may NOT collect bushwood of any kind including leaves and twigs for kindling – and penalties apply.
Before you set up your camp, purchase your camping permit and use existing campsite and camp within the tree line and not on the fore dunes. Check the local conditions before you leave home – bring fresh water and keep your dogs on a lead and under control at all times. Do NOT dump portable toilet waste in the campground toilet – use the council camping service facilities located on Clarkson Drive at Rainbow Beach. Reduce noise after 9pm at night.
You can obtain camping permits online at the DERM website and bookings can also be made in person at Manta Ray Barges, 66 Rainbow Beach Road, Rainbow Beach Open 7 days 5am – 6pm (camping permits are NOT available on the barge). Permits are also available at Rainbow Beach Foodwork, the IGA, QPW information centre on Rainbow Beach Road or Visit the Great Sandy National Park Information Centre at Tewantin. Phone 137468 13QGOV.
