April 25 On ANZAC Day our Rainbow Beach RSL Sub-Branch has a 4.15 am Dawn Service at the Cenotaph, followed by a Gunfire Breakfast at the Surf Club (limited numbers due to COVID requirements). All welcome at the 10 am street March which starts at the Centre Block followed by the Citizens Commemoration of ANZAC Day (pictured). All of this overlooks the ocean – it is great to be able to attend and pay our respects.
May 1-2 Cooloola Farm Trails are an event I have been wanting to attend for years! You can tour through the Gympie region to experience production and farm shops for berries, coffee, essential oils, macadamias, even a school kitchen garden, and a nursery. I might stop into the Big Rosella Festival, on the same weekend, as well.
May 1 Highly recommended is the Bay to Bay Yacht Race, you can actually follow the fleet to Inskip Point on the Dolphin Ferry Cruise. They continue on the next day to Hervey Bay on this annual sailing spectacular.
May 1-2 Go see Tin Can Bay Model Flying Club’s Australian Large Scale Fly-In. It is a fascinating day out – the models on display will be some of the largest in Australia and there will be lots of flying demonstrations.
May 14-16 Cooloola CoastCare’s BioBlitz is for any citizen scientist to help our local environment, and includes: evening presentations, nocturnal field trips, a special Sci-art program, guided walks – come for one day or the whole weekend. I’d book in early for this one!
All of May Gympie Council host Forage events – everything foodie – from the Rattler Tasting Train, Paella Sundays, Pumpkin Festival, a Dinner under the Stars, farm tours and a long lunch!
