Experiencing baby squirt swimming with her mum Ella is well worth it. Four dolphins came in to feed the day we visited. I thought it had almost finished, but the dolphins just hung around for ages approaching people in the water. Then the feeding began at 8am. The Indo-Pacific dolphins are fairly rare. It was easy to tell the dolphins apart with Mystique’s scarring and shark bite scars on Harmony’s fin.
Boarding the ferry is a leisurely way to take in the dolphins and the beauty of the Sandy Straits. The dolphins are wild and are not guaranteed to visit the boat ramp. The volunteer’s talk is interesting – the history of how the dolphin feeding occurred is unusual. It really is a morning well spent (plus I am told the coffee at Barnacles Cafe is good too).
